The Show Programs Of Randlane

Randlane claims neither the title of a cabaret theatre nor a music hall, of course. It cannot be said, though, that the attitude towards the shows is easier than otherwise; the attitude is more of a parody towards the genres and oneselves. The shows should be forbidden to a citizen, who doesn’t have a sense of humour born with him, or if it has gone lost during his life.

Cabaret Charade (Kabaree KaMaRaJuRa) – came out in July, 1997. Songs and stories from the 70s.

Variety 80 – came out in July, 1998. In the 80s, many of the members of the theatre had chances to see the glory of Soviet Estonia’s variety art, both, in Tallinn and in the homely Haapsalu, where The Lääne Kalur (Western Fisherman) Variety acted out. This program makes a nostalgic u-turn exactly to those times.

Cabaret Vol 3 – premiere in July, 1999. A retrospect to the ending century in the art of cabaret and variety.

Girls Alarmed

In the cold winter of 1996, some women of the theatre went nuts and started to make a band. At the end of February they were brave enough to get on the stage for the first time – on the Day Of The Ones Who Have At Least The Minimum Energy. The original members of Smoke, Drink and Drive were Kai Tarmula (vocals, guitar), Marina Sillaste (vocals), Anneli Jaarma (vocals), Liivi Ollino (vocals, bass guitar), Anneli Aken (synthecisor, percussion instruments). The giddy audience popularity inspired to carry on. The band, now called Gani Monetu, stepped up at the tehatre’s benefit performance; the ones who visited the events at the ploughing day remember them as Karuäke (The Bear Harrow). The participation of the all-not-so-very-young-women band Arrogant&Ugly at the festival of adolescent bands called It Spins After All made a little boom even at a tabloid weekly Kroonika.

They also haven’t got an escape from hackwork – at the request of citizen Soola, the all-popular pub Lestauime saw their program in the summer of the same year. After an almost half-year-long creational pause, the band got together again. The palces of Manni, who took a maternity vacation, and Kai, eho moved to Pärnu, took over Janne Beeren, who has stayed with the band. The concerts at the VI Business Days in Haapsalu and at the fair of inland tourism, under the name Pitsilised Koed (Laced Textures), made the theme songs of Haapsalu popular again (the ones created for the White Lady Song Contests). Urban culture has also been taken to countryside – to the Martna spring fair.

In Cabaret Charade, which gave it’s premiere in 1997, the all-women band had the leading role. At the party of ducking the flag of the Haapsalu Yachting Club, the first full-length concert was given. Also, in all other show programs the songs have been ringing, putting together programs for different theme events haven’t become a problem (from the anniversary of railroad to marine songs).
The band has been compared to many different girl bands (Spice Girls, Click OK, Kuldsed Lindid or The Golden Streamers), but such a comparison doesn’t lead to anywhere because you need to know that this band came before all of the others. Also, the uncomparable can’t be compared.

In a word – girls had once a plan to sing a bit. They sang once, they sang twice, a little bit more, and… When they reached the fourth singing session they didn’t want to stop any more. And so they didn’t.

Neiud Ärevil (Girls Alarmed) today: Anneli Aken, Anneli Jaarma, Janne Beeren, Liivi Ollino and Mairi Grossfeldt. Call us: (+372) 47 35652 or e-mail us: randlane@kala.ee, and Girls Alarmed sing your life beautiful!
