Randlane Arranges Festivals

The theatre isn’t just only plays. Although, Randlane likes to show itself in the festivals, it also likes to arrange them.

After a long pause, Randlane, alongside with The Association of Estonian Amateur Theatres, arranged a festival for the amateur theatres, again. Present were also Alf Hemming, the Chief Secretary of IATA, and Alla Zorina, the Chief Secretary of IATA In Russia. They gave the festival a high estimation and a recommendation to arrange the next festival, now international, already in a year’s time.

1995, I International Theatre Festival InterTeaterFest, present was also the president of IATA, Thomas Hauger. The participants of the festival: Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Finland, Sweden, Chech Republic, Spain, Estonia. Randlane performed Total Country – Total Person.

Mud Manoeuvres

The manoeuvres have outgrown from the mud contests during theatre festivals. In 1998, the theatre discovered that mud, the most famous of the natural resources in Haapsalu, has been paid shamefully little attention outside therapeutical and tourism circles. So the decision of having an event was made – of mud, to mud and in mud. During the first Mud Manoeuvres (in 1998), a mud painting contest was arranged for kids, also a speech contest between the Haapsalu and Pärnu people of cultural sphere, and a huge mud fest in beach Aafrika, during which the mayor of Haapsalu, Urmas Sukles, and the previous mayor of Pärnu, dug into mud, among other people. They also festively signed a contract between the two cities which declares the neverending friendship between both of the cities, called “Friendship as deep as mud”. The mud therapy centers of Haapsalu had a welcoming day – everybody could see for oneself how modern mud therapy takes place.

The Mud Manoeuvres of 1999 were more of a sporty kind. When the previous years saw mud wrestling, ballgames, also volleyball and some popular folk games, then year 1999 was the year of American football. It was either the specifics of the sport or the extraordinarily hot weather, but that a big bunch of muddy people have never been seen, nor earlier, neither later. The event was also supported by the Haapsalu Music Theatre with it’s mud music program. Yet another event makes the manoeuvres of 1999 historical: it’s that for the first time the organisers could break the fear of mud among people. Under the fondling glances of parents only the kids ducked in the mud pool, though, but hopefully the moms and dads will follow the example of their offsprings during next events.
